SAINT LEO, Fla. - The Saint Leo men’s golf team defeated the University of Tampa in a rare dual match that was played between the two at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club next to the Saint Leo campus.
The match play format saw Saint Leo win six of the nine matches with one draw and two losses with both teams battling gusty winds which dried out the already quick greens.
In the win the Lions were led by J.P. Albuquerque’s 6 and 5, Tom Lynn’s 6 and 4, Cole Cisbani’s 5 and 4, Matt Cornuet 5 and 3, Bryan Jonasson’s 3 and 2 as well as Mark McGuire’s 2 and 1. Ricky Briggs played his opponent even for the match’s only draw.
The Lions will now head down to Miami Shores, Fla. where they will compete in the Barry Buccaneer Invitational on April 6-7. The tournament will be held at Normandy Shores Golf Club and will be hosted by Sunshine State Conference foe Barry University.
