Austin, Texas (May 6, 2008) – Saint Leo University men’s golfer Matt Cornuet (Jr., Sebring, Fla.) shot a second round 79 on Tuesday to total 160 (81-79) and put himself in 44th-place following the first two days of play at the 2008 NCAA South Region Tournament in Austin, Texas.  The South/South Central Super Regional is being hosted by St. Edward’s University at Grey Rock Golf Club.


West Florida (279-279=558) shot its second-consecutive five-under par round to jump out to a six-stroke lead. Nova Southeastern (284-280=564) is second place and they are followed by North Alabama (289-286=575) at third place.

Individually, West Florida’s Kyle Scott (67-70=137) ended tied atop the leaderboard with Florida Southern’s Jude Eustaquio (64-73=137). Arkansas Tech’s Jarred Carlyle (72-67=139) and Nova Southeastern’s Constantin Schwierz (72-67=139) are tied for third place.

The three-day event will conclude Wednesday when the field competes in the third and final round of the tournament at Grey Rock Golf Club. The top team, along with the three next highest teams will advance to Houston, Texas for the National Tournament. The top two individuals not on any of those teams will also qualify for the Nationals.
