Austin, Texas (May 5, 2008) – Saint Leo University men’s golfer Matt Cornuet (Jr., Sebring, Fla.) shot an opening round 81 and was in 43rd-place at the 2008 NCAA South Region Tournament following the first day of play on Monday.  The South/South Central Super Regional is being hosted by St. Edward’s University at Grey Rock Golf Club.


Florida Southern College’s Jude Eustaquio shot an opening round 64 (-7) to lead individually.  A pair of West Florida players were tied for second-place at 4-under-par with matching scores of 67.

West Florida and Florida Southern shared the first round lead with team scores of 279.  Nova Southeastern University was five shots back with an opening round score of 284.

The second round of the South/South Central Super Regional will be played on Tuesday with a final round scheduled for Wednesday at Grey Rock Golf Club.

The top team from each region within the super regional and the top individual not with a team from each super regional (regardless of region) will advance to the finals May 14-17 at the Division II Spring National Championships Festival in Houston, Texas.  The finals will be hosted by Rice University and the Harris County-Houston Sports Authority.
