Viera, Fla. (April 15, 2008) – The Saint Leo University men’s golf team moved up one spot with a final round score of 315 to finish sixth at the 2008 Sunshine State Conference Golf Championships in Viera, Fla. on Tuesday.  The Lions totaled 919 (298-306-315) in the 54-hole event at the par-72, 7,057-yard layout at The Duran Golf Club in Viera, Fla.


Florida Southern (281-296-302=879) won the Conference Championship, breaking a three-way tie after rounds one and two and winning by seven strokes over Lynn University (295-282-309=886).  Barry University and Nova Southeastern University both finished with scores of 889 to tie for third-place, while tournament host Florida Tech rounded out the top-five with a score of 895

Saint Leo sophomore Mark McGuire (Clifton, N.J.) carded a final round 73 to finish tied for seventh with a six-over-par total of 222 (74-75-73).  Cole Cisbani (So., New Port Richey, Fla.), was tied for 13th-place with a 225 (74-75-76).

Individually a three-way tie for first sent Southern’s Judson Eustaquio, Lynn’s Jordan Holley and NSU’s Greg O’Mahony (214) to a sudden death play-off. Each took a five on the par-5 ninth hole to force a second playoff hole.  O’Mahony birdied the par-4 10th hole to take the championship. Florida Tech’s David D’Agostino finished fourth overall at 217, while Southern’s Brian Richey and Barry’s Victor Billskoog tied for fifth to round out the All-Tournament Team.
