Saint Leo, Fla. (October 23, 2007) – The Saint Leo University men’s golf team successfully defended its title at the 2007 SLU Men’s Fall Invitational at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club on Tuesday.  The event was played on the 7,132-yard par-72 South Course.


The Lions shot a team total of 895 (299-292-304) to win by four strokes over second-place Northwood University (297-301-301=899).  Florida Tech (901) finished third with Tampa (904) and Warner Southern (1,021) rounding out the five team field.

Northwood’s Jeff Ivall won individual medalist honors on the first playoff hole over Saint Leo junior Matt Cornuet (Jr., Sebring, Fla.).  The pair had finished the 54-hole event with matching scores of two-over-par 218.

Saint Leo freshman Steven Fiori (Monroeville, Pa.) missed out on the playoff by one stroke, as he was tied for third with a 219 (76-70-73).  Saint Leo individual Chris Marinaro (Sr., Pittsfield, Mass.) was tied for seventh following back-to-back 73’s in the second and third rounds.  Defending champion Mark McGuire (So., Clifton, N.J.) rounded out a quartet of Lions in the top-10, as he was also tied for seventh with a 223 (72-77-74).

Other Saint Leo scores included Bryan Jonasson’s (Jr., Needham, Mass.) 236, which was good for a tie for 19th, while Cole Cisbani (So., New Port Richey, Fla.) was one stroke behind Jonasson in 21st-place.  Saint Leo’s other individual, Cole Leibel (So., Toronto, Canada) was in 24th following a 54-hole total of 242.

Saint Leo will wrap up its fall schedule at the Rollins College Invitational October 29-30 in Winter Park, Fla.
