Viera, Fla. (April 17, 2007) – The Saint Leo University men’s golf team finished eighth at the 2007 Sunshine State Conference Championships with a score of 633 (321-312-312) on Tuesday. The event was hosted by Florida Tech on the 7,127-yard par 72 layout at Duran Golf Club in Viera, Fla.
Nova Southeastern University was crowned the SSC Champion for the second time in three seasons with a three-round total of 901 (302-305-294). Florida Tech, who led following the first day, finished second with a team total of 904 (301-302-301).
The Lions final round of score 312 helped them to move up one spot following the first day of play, as they moved ahead of Eckerd College.
Tech’s Anthony Klingensmith was the individual medalist, while Saint Leo was led by Brian Schmidt (Sr., Sarasota, Fla.) who tied for 21st overall with a total of 232 (78-74-80). Fellow senior Jacob Halligan (Taylor Mill, Ky.) shot a final round 73 en route to a tie for 23rd-place with a total of 233 (82-78-73).
Other Saint Leo scores included Matt Cornuet’s 238 (83-77-78), Chris Marinaro’s 243 (79-83-81) and Ben Shulman’s 248 (82-84-82).
