Valdosta, Ga. (March 20, 2007) – The Saint Leo University men’s golf team finished 17th at the 2007 Southeastern Collegiate hosted by Valdosta State at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga. The Lions had a team score of 925 (304-307-314) in the 54-hole event.
Saint Leo was led by sophomore Matt Cornuet (Sebring, Fla.) who carded rounds of 73-72-79 for a 54-hole total of 224.
West Florida registered a final round 289 (+1) on Tuesday to claim a seven-stroke victory. The Argonauts, who won the tournament for the second straight year, shot an 866 (+2) for the tournament and were led by David Lingmerth, who shot a six-under 210 to claim medalist honors.
Florida Southern used a final day rally to move into second-place overall, shooting a 291 (+3) to finish nine-over par at 873 while Nova Southeastern finished with a three-round total of 878 (+14) after shooting a 299 (+11) on Tuesday.
Saint Leo will next participate in the Buccaneer Invitational hosted by Barry University April 2-3. The event will be played at Westview Country Club in Miami, Fla.
