Melbourne, Fla. (March 6, 2007) – The Saint Leo University men’s golf team finished 11th at the Florida Tech Panther Invitational on Tuesday. The Lions shot a three round team total of 941 (312-309-320). The event was held at The Duran Golf Club in Viera, Fla. site of this season’s Sunshine State Conference Championships.
Reigning SSC Player of the Week, Jacob Halligan (Sr., Taylor Mill, Ky.) led the Lions with a tie for 23rd individually. Halligan carded rounds of 77, 74 and 78 for a 54-hole total of 229. Teammate Brian Schmidt (Sr., Sarasota, Fla.) was one shot further back in a tie for 26th with a total of 230 (78-76-76).
Florida Gulf Coast University won the overall event with a team total of 892 (304-298-290). David D’Agostino of tournament host Florida Tech won individual medalist honors with a three round score of 1-over-par 217 (73-72-72).
Saint Leo’s men’s golf team will return to play in two weeks, as the Lions will head to Valdosta, Ga. for the 2007 Southeastern Collegiate hosted by Valdosta State University. The event will be played at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club where the Lions finished second last week during the Thomas University Winter Invitational.
