Dewberry and Satchell earn All-SSC Men's Basketball honors

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo seniors Marcus Dewberry and Justin Satchell were named to All-Sunshine State Conference teams announced Wednesday, March 1 by the league's office. Dewberry was named to the First Team All-SSC as Satchell was selected to the All-Newcomer Team, as voted on by the conference's coaches.

Dewberry was selected to the first team for the second consecutive year, while Satchell, a newcomer to the Lions this year and the league, adds the All-Newcomer team accolades to his resume after one year of action on the court in Green and Gold.

Dewberry closed out his four-year career with 1,524 points, 436 rebounds, 406 assists and 133 steals.

Satchell completed his one year in the Green and Gold with 428 points, 186 rebounds, 42 assists, 23 steals and 16 blocks. For his career, Satchell finished with 975 points and 471 rebounds in three years of collegiate basketball.

Both seniors earned SSC Player of the Week honors this season (Dewberry Nov. 14 and Jan. 23; Satchell Dec. 5). 

Dewberry concluded the regular season as the SSC leading scorer (20.6 points per game) and led in free throw percentage (.919). He ended his senior campaign ranked in the top 10 in six other league categories: third in minutes played (34.2 per game), fourth assists per game (4.8), fifth in steals per game (1.7), sixth in three-point field goals made per game (2.9), three-point field goal percentage (.479) and ninth in field goal percentage (.479). In national rankings, Dewberry ranked in the top 50 in six categories led by his eighth-place finish in free throw percentage (.919).

Satchell wrapped up his 2016-17 season ranked in the top 10 in three SSC categories in scoring (15.9 ppg), rebounding (6.9 per game) and three-point field goals made per game (2.5) while he was 11th in blocks per game (0.6).

Both seniors left their mark in the program record books where Dewberry, who played all four years at Saint Leo, ranks in the top 10 in five major categories All-Time in program history with his best of fourth in assists (406) and three-point field goals made (193). Dewberry ranks seventh all-time in scoring (1,524), eighth in steals (133) and ninth in free throws made (277).

In single-season career records, Dewberry turned in two of the top seven single-season point totals (611 in 2015-16, 556 in 2016-17), while he turned in two of the top 11 number of assists in a single season (147 in 2015-16, 130 in 2016-17). Satchell joined Dewberry in the number of three-pointers made in a single season leaving his mark at 67 which put him 12th in program history behind Dewberry who owns the school's record for three's in a season at 88, set in 2015-16. Dewberry's 77 three-pointers in 2016-17 proved to be the sixth-best total in a single season by a player.
