Men's basketball falls in tough game to Eckerd Saturday

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Saint Leo men's basketball team fell to Eckerd 83-67 in Sunshine State Conference play Saturday afternoon at the McArthur Center. The Lions saw their three-game win streak come to a halt to a fiery Eckerd Tritons.

"Again our guys failed to pay attention to details, and that hurt us early in the game, "head coach Vince Alexander mentioned in Saint Petersburg following the game at Eckerd College. "We will just get back to it and work harder with our guys on doing the little things that help us win ball games in the future."

The Lions were led by Necdet Gurkan who tied a game-high 20 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field with a perfect 4-for-4 from downtown. Gurkan added four freebies from the free-throw line on the night.

Justin Satchell was second on the team in scoring with 19 points and nine rebounds. The Lions bench was led by Davon Payne and Gary Hector who had seven and six points, respectively.

The Lions' 67 points were the fewest points this season, and the fewest points scored since March 5 when Saint Leo scored 72 against No. 17 Barry in the Sunshine State Conference tournament. The Lions' last trip to below 70 points was February 13 when the Lions fell 96-56 at Embry-Riddle.
