Men’s basketball controls entire game against P.R.-Mayaguez

SAINT LEO, Fla. – In the first home game of the season, the Saint Leo men's basketball team picked up their first win of the year defeating the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez (UPRM) 90-63 Saturday night inside the Marion Bowman Activities Center. With the home win, Saint Leo extends their home win streak to 10 games, dating back to the 2015-16 season.

The Lions dropped their last home contest on Dec. 12, 2015, to Barry (87-85) and have since ripped off 10 straight home wins. After starting the 2016-17 home portion of the schedule with a win, the Lions have won their home opener for the past seven years.

"Although we got the win, I was disappointed in our lack of attention to detail again, I was not happy with the turnovers tonight," Head Coach Vince Alexander stated after the first win of the season. "I was not happy with a number of offensive rebounds we gave up."

Tyreece Brice broke out for the first time this season scoring 18 points to lead all scorers on five-of-seven shooting from the field. Brice sank all three three-pointers he took while going five-of-six from the free throw line. Brice picked up four rebounds and five assists on the evening.

"Very nice to see Tyreece have a breakout game, but we still have to get better," Alexander mentioned of Brice's highest point total this season.

Four other Lions joined Brice in double-figures, as Marcus Dewberry put 17 points, second best in the contest, ahead of Davon Payne who had 13, Justin Satchell who had 11 and Lawrence Watt who finished the night with 10 points.
