Dewberry Named to NCAA D2CCA All-South Region First Team

LAKELAND, Fla. – Saint Leo junior guard, Marcus Dewberry, was named to the NCAA Division II D2CCA (Conference Commissioners Association) First team announced Monday, March 14th.

Dewberry led the Lions to a 19-12 record and a 10-6 mark in the Sunshine State Conference and was named First Team All-SSC and to the SSC All-Tournament Team.

The Lake Wales native, scored 611 points this season with 298 rebounds and 276 assists. Dewberry led the Lions to the SSC Semifinals and to the NCAA South Regional Tournament Quarterfinals at Alabama-Huntsville. He averaged 19.7 point per game, 5.5 rebounds per game and 4.7 assists per game.

During the year, Dewberry recorded one triple-double on February 20th vs. Florida Tech with 27 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. Following that week of play, he was named U.S. Basketball Writers Associations Division II National Player of the Week before following that performance up with his second career double-double.

He was named SSC Player of the Week four times throughout the course of the year. Dewberry recorded three double-doubles, scored in double-figures in 29-of-31 games with 14, 20+ point games. Dewberry reached the 30+ points plateau on five occasions while he led the Lions in scoring in nine games, assists 21 times and steals 16 times throughout the season.

Dewberry is nationally ranked in the top-50 in all of Division II in eight different categories including in the top-15 in free throw percentage at 89.6-percent for 12th in the country. He is in a tie for second in total triple-doubles with one, while he is 30th in both total field goal attempts three-point field goal attempts, 38th in total assists, 40th in total three-point field goals made, 46th in total points and 47th in total field goals made.
