Brice’s Career-High Not Enough in Loss to Ala.-Huntsville

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Saint Leo men's basketball ended their season on a high note, a trip to the NCAA Men's basketball Division II South Regional quarterfinals on Saturday, March 12th at Alabama-Huntsville. The Lions fell to Alabama-Huntsville 98-81 in the quarterfinals behind a career-high night from Tyreece Brice.

Despite the loss to Alabama-Huntsville, the Lions recorded a winning season, with a 19-12 record and a 10-6 mark in the Sunshine State Conference. Tyreece Brice notched a career-high and had game-high 31 points off the bench for Saint Leo.

Caleb Stewart and Marcus Dewberry were the other two Lions to score in double-figures as Stewart added 13 points and Dewberry had 10. Stewart led the team in rebounding with seven.

Senior Trey Griseck ended his career as the winningest player in Saint Leo history. Griseck has been a part of 79 career wins in the Green and Gold, and finishes his career with 430 points, 199 rebounds, 91 assists, 46 steals and nine blocks. Griseck finished with a total of 1,699 minutes played in 100 career games.

How It Happened…

1H | Alabama-Huntsville started the game off going out to a 8-0 lead before Marcus Dewberry put the Lions on the board with a deep jumper. A Tyreece Brice three pointer and Lawrence Watt free throw brought the Lions within five, 11-6 UAH. The Chargers would keep their foot on the gas and control the first half as Saint Leo took open shots but the ball wouldn't fall in. Alabama-Huntsville jumped out to their largest lead of 21 points before Saint Leo cut that lead down to 14 points heading into the locker room.  Tyreece Brice led the team in scoring with 14 points including a three pointer at the buzzer to end the half. D'Shea Williams and Johnathan Childs led the team in rebounds with three in the half while Marcus Dewberry had team high four assists. The Chargers were led by Seab Webster who recorded 12 points. | Alabama-Huntsville 42-28 |

2H | The Chargers came out of the locker room pushed their lead to 19 points within the first three minutes in the second half, 52-33. Over the next seven minutes, Saint Leo charged and climbed back within 10 points with 10 minutes to play in the game. The Lions' full court defense caused two turnovers and four quick points to cut the lead to 10, 59-49. Saint Leo would keep the Chargers within 10 over the next three minutes before Alabama-Huntsville pushed the lead to 24 points with one minute to play. Tyreece Brice, D'Shea Williams and Ryan Burnett all scored in the final minute, as UAH went on for the 17 point victory. | Alabama-Huntsville 98-81 |

  • The Lions held the bench scoring edge outscoring the Chargers 43-37. Both team grabbed 35 rebounds.

  • Four Chargers scored in double figures led by Seab Webster with 30 points.
  • Greg Gardner added 16, Michael Gilmore had 12 as Justin Ward had 11 off the bench.
