Saint Leo places three on All-SSC post-season teams

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's basketball saw three first time honors find themselves with Sunshine State Conference post-season honors following the season.  Junior Marcus Dewberry was named First Team All-SSC, while sophomores Tyreece Brice and Caleb Stewart were named to the All-Newcomer team.

Dewberry was named First Team All-SSC for his first ever post season honor after averaging 19.6 points per game, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists. Throughout the season he earned four SSC Player of the Week awards and scored 30-plus points on five occasions. He recorded his first career triple double, which was also his first career double-double, on Feb. 20 versus Florida Tech, scoring 27 points, adding 10 rebounds and 10 assists, earning the USBWA DII Player of the Week title. He followed that up with his second career double-double versus Rollins, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Over the season he led the Lions in scoring on nine occasions, assists 20 times, and steals 16 times.

Dewberry is nationally-ranked 73rd in points per game, 65th in three-point field goal percentage and total field goals made, 64th in three-point field goals per game, 58th in total points, 57th in three-point field goal attempts, 56th in assists per game, 51st in total three-point field goals made, 46th in total field goals attempts, 41st in total assists, and even more exclusively, Dewberry is ranked 16th in free-throw percentage, and 2nd in total triple doubles.

Brice earned his place on the SSC All-Newcomer Team after averaging 15.1 points per game, 4.3 rebounds and 3.6 assists. Over the season, he had nine 20-plus point performances, including a career-high 26 points twice. He led the Lions in scoring eight times, in steals 14 times, and in assists 10 times.

The 5-foot-10 guard finished the regular season fifth in shooting percentage in the SSC, but was an average of nine inches shorter than the four who finished above him. He also finished the regular season 76th in the nation in total steals, and 93rd in field goal percentage.

Stewart was also named to the SSC All-Newcomer team after averaging 14.9 points per game, a team-high 5.8 rebounds per game, and 1.5 blocks, good for sixth in the SSC. He also earned one SSC Player of the Week honor during the season. The 6-foot-9 forward led the Lions in score on nine occasions, in rebounding 12 times, and blocked shots 20 times. He scored 20-plus points on eight occasions, including a career-high 30 points against Rollins. He also recorded one double-double, scoring 14 points, adding 12 rebounds versus Florida Southern. He finished the regular season nationally-ranked 63rd in total blocks, and 71st in blocked shots per game.

The Saint Leo men's basketball team heads into the Sunshine State Conference Tournament tonight as the fourth seed, and hosts the fifth-seeded Nova Southeastern Sharks at 7:00 p.m. in the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
