Dewberry Named USBWA DII National Player of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Missouri - Saint Leo junior Marcus Dewberry was selected as the U.S. Basketball Writers Association Division II Men's Basketball Player of the Week, announced on February, 23rd by the association.

Marcus Dewberry is the third player from the Sunshine State Conference this year to be selected the USBWA D-II Men's Basketball National Player of the Week. 

This past Monday, Dewberry earned his fourth Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week accolades after his performance in two victories last week for Saint Leo. 

The 6-foot Lake Wales native, averaged 30 points, shooting a combined 50-percent from beyond the arc on nine of 18 shooting, grabbing nine rebounds per game and dishing out 7.5 assists. 

In a 97-84 come from behind win at Palm Beach Atlantic, Dewberry recorded his fifth 30-point game of the season with 33 points. He added eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. Three days later, Dewberry recorded his first career triple-double and the schools first as far back as the NCAA records can show. In the 96-84 win at home over Florida Tech, Dewberry hit 10-of-17 from the field including four-of-eight on three pointers. 

Dewberry helped Saint Leo improve to 17-9 overall on the season and 9-5 in SSC play. The Lions return to action Wednesday, February 24th when they travel to Rollins College for a 7:30 pm tip.
