SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's basketball team defeated Lynn University on Saturday night in an overtime thriller, 93-90, to earn their 15th win of the season inside the Marion Bowman Center. The victory marked Head Coach Vince Alexander's 300th career win as a coach.
The Lions improve to 15-8 overall and 8-5 in the Sunshine State Conference as the Fighting Knights fall to 10-10 overall and 4-8 in the SSC. Saint Leo improves their home record to 12-2 this season, as well as being two-for-two in overtime games.
Saint Leo erased a 13 point deficit in the second half to tie the game at the end of regulation. Caleb Stewart's free throw shots helped the Lions climb back into the game and allowed them to force overtime. Tryeece Brice opened the overtime period scoring six points and led the charge for Saint Leo, as the Lions held off the Knights' momentum.
The Lions received 21 points on the night from Tyreece Brice on 10-for-21 shooting from the field. Marcus Dewberry added 17 points, all in the second half, as Caleb Stewart chipped in 15 points on 3-for-12 shooting from the field, but 8-for-10 from the free throw line. Carter Belling chipped in 10 points off the bench on 3-for-5 shooting from the field with 2-of-3 from beyond the arc.
As a team, Saint Leo outscored Lynn off of turnovers, 21-18, and with second chance points, 18-7. Lynn held the slight advantage in the paint scoring 36 of their 90 inside the key, compared to Saint Leo's 30 of 93.

How It Happened 1H | The first half would start out close as the game would go back and forth, being tied two times and the lead changed hands three times. Saint Leo would get their largest lead of six points off a Trey Griseck three pointer with 13:06 on the clock. Lynn would battle back and outscore the Lions 12-5 in a three minute span to take the lead 17-16. The Fighting Knights would extend their largest lead of nine points, 32-23 at 4:31 to go. The Lions would close that gap to five with 1:29 to play. Lynn would get back to a seven point lead off of a Fred Landers layup followed by a jumper by Russell Wilson to get to their nine point lead with 35-seconds to play in the opening half. Carter Belling drained a three with three seconds to go to head into the locker room down by six. Caleb Stewart and Carter Belling are leading the Lions with eight points at the break as Ryan Burnett has seven points and five rebounds. 2H | Lynn came out of the locker room and outscored Saint Leo 21-14 to get up by 13 points, 62-49, with 12:37 to play in regulation. The Lions would storm back on an 12-0 run to get within one, 62-61, with 10:05 on the clock. Lynn would answer that Saint Leo run with their own 11-4 run to get back up by eighth with 7:48 remaining. Saint Leo's defense would put Lynn to a scoring halt allowing the Lions to get back into the game, down by two points, 77-75, with just over three minutes to go. Marcus Dewberry would drain a three to get the Lions within one point at the two minute mark, 79-78. Lynn went up by three, 81-78, before Tyreece Brice would hit a three pointer to tie the game at 81 a piece before the game would head to overtime. OT | In overtime, Tyreece Brice would open the scoring and lead Saint Leo as he scored the first four points of the extra period, 85-81. Lynn's Ben Berry would hit a three to close the Lions' lead within one, 85-84, before Saint Leo used a timeout with 1:33 to go in overtime. Brice would come out of the timeout, hit a floater that would be counted on goal-tending to push the Lions up 87-84. Caleb Stewart would hit four free throws to keep Saint Leo in front, 91-87, with 34-seconds to play. The Knights' Fred Landers would connect on a three pointer to cut the lead to one point, 91-90, with 2.2-seconds on the clock. Dewberry would steal the ball from Lynn's Russell Wilson as he went for a layup before Carter Belling hit two free throws leaving 1.2-seconds on the clock. Points to Note
Tyreece Brice scored 21 points after starting out the game 0-for-7 FG. Brice scored six straight points for the Lions in overtime.
Marcus Dewberry scored 17 points, all in the second half. Caleb Stewart scored 15 points with team-high six rebounds. Carter Belling chipped in with 10 points off the bench.
The Lions' victory marked Coach Alexander's 300th career victory.
As a team, Saint Leo shot 36.0-percent from beyond the arc and 40.5-percent from the field for the game. The Lions caused 23 turnovers, with 12 steals on just 11 turnovers of their own. Saint Leo shot 74.1-percent (20-27) from the free throw line.
For the Knights
Lynn was led by Fred Landers who scored team-high 31 points in the overtime loss. David Johnson had 18 points. Ben Berry finished with a double-double 14 points, 11 rebounds. Russell Wilson finished the game with 11 points.
The Fighting Knights shot 47-percent from the field, and 42.9-percent from three point land. Lynn shot 65.5-percent (19-29) from the free throw line. Held the advantage in rebounding, 51-29.
