Saint Leo Men’s Basketball Moves to #5 in D2SIDA South Regional Media Poll

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's basketball team moved up to No. 5 in the Week 11 South Region poll, announced by the D2SIDA South Regional Media Poll on Monday, February 1st, after a pair of victories last week.

With the two wins, Saint Leo improved to 14-7 on the season and 7-4 in the Sunshine State Conference. The Lions were paced by three time SSC Offensive player of the week winner Marcus Dewberry. Dewberry scored a career high 35 points in the win at Florida Southern. Dewberry was joined by Caleb Stewart in double-figures both nights as Stewart notched his first career double-double on Saturday, ending the game at 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The Lions, who ranked No. 9 last week in the region, defeated nationally ranked No. 10/11 Eckerd in Saint Leo on Wednesday, January 27th by a final score of 87-84, before heading on the road to take down Florida Southern 89-86 in Lakeland on Saturday, January 30th. Eckerd was ranked No. 2 in the region as Florida Southern is unranked.

Saint Leo will travel to nationally ranked No. 24/15 Barry on Wednesday, at 7:30 PM. The matchup will feature the Buccaneers who are second in the conference at 8-2 as the Lions are sitting at 7-4 in fourth place. Following that road trip, Saint Leo will return home to host Lynn University on Saturday, February 6th inside the Bowman Activities Center.
