Dewberry named SSC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo men's basketball guard Marcus Dewberry averaged 26.5 points over a pair of games with a pair of career milestones along the way, earning Sunshine State Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors, for the week ending December 6, 2015.

Dewberry scored 20 points in the Lions' 91-89 win over defending national champion Florida Southern on Wednesday night at the Bowman Center. He shot 9-of-18 from the field with a pair of three-pointers, and grabbed seven rebounds. Dewberry dished out a career-high nine assists in the win over the Mocs, and had a pair of steals.

Dewberry followed up on Saturday with a career-high 33 points in a 97-91 road loss at Lynn University, recording the first 30-point game of his career. That effort also put the junior over the 500-point mark for his career. Dewberry was 11-of-18 from the floor versus the Fighting Knights with two treys, and he posted a 9-of-11 mark at the free-throw line. He also handed out six assists with two steals.

For the week, Dewberry charted a .556 field-goal percentage and a .818 shooting percentage at the free-throw line. He averaged 7.0 rebounds and 7.5 assists with 2.0 steals.

Saint Leo men's basketball returns to the court on Saturday, Dec. 12, when it hosts SSC rival Barry University as part of a conference doubleheader. The women's game tips-off at 2:00 p.m., followed by the men's game at 4:00 p.m.
