Caleb Stewart tabbed as SSC Player of the Week

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo men's basketball forward Caleb Stewart paced the Lions to a pair of victories, including a win over No. 12 Alabama-Huntsville, and was rewarded on Monday with Sunshine State Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors for the season's opening weekend.

Stewart averaged 22.5 points with 6.5 rebounds while shooting .419 from the field in wins over North Alabama and Alabama-Huntsville, giving the Lions a 2-0 start to the season.

Stewart scored a game-high 29 points with seven rebounds on Saturday, to lead the Lions to a 93-90 OT win over No. 12 Alabama-Huntsville, in Saint Leo's first win over a nationally-ranked team since a 76-73 overtime win at #8 Florida Southern on February 19, 2014. Stewart accounted for 12 of Saint Leo's 13 points in the overtime session, including a 10-for-10 mark at the free-throw line. For the game, Stewart was 7-of-16 from the field with 4-of-8 accuracy beyond the arc, and an 11-of-12 mark at the stripe.

The previous night, Stewart netted 16 points with six rebounds, four assists, and two blocks in a 97-90 victory over North Alabama. He had a 6-of-15 mark from the field, and went 3-of-3 at the charity stripe.

Saint Leo men's basketball returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 18, when they travel to St. Petersburg, Fla., to open SSC play at Eckerd College. Tip-off for the Lions and the Tritons is slated for 7:30 p.m.
