Ron Foxx reaches career milestone in road loss to Florida Tech

Melbourne, Fla. – Behind a 21 point effort, Ron Foxx joined elite company at Florida Tech Wednesday night. Fox became the 23rd student athlete in Saint Leo men's basketball history to reach the 1,000-point career milestone. 

Florida Tech defeated Saint Leo 61-54 in the Clemente Center, dropping the Lions to 11-11, 3-7 SSC. Foxx lead all scorers with 21 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists. Cale Girten turned in 13 points, his third consecutive double-digit performance. Devin Crisosto tallied 10 points and two assists.

Saint Leo and Florida Tech both got off to slow starts, shooting sub-par from the field. The defensive juggernaut, forced long possessions but Saint Leo was able to convert on Florida Tech turnovers. Down seven with 7:50 to play, the Lions went on a 14-7 run in the final minutes of the first half to tie the game thanks to a buzzer beater three from Girten. 

Breaking a 24-24 halftime tie, Florida Tech went on a 16-6 run that lasted nearly seven minutes. Down 40-30, Saint Leo started to chip back. Slowly, the momentum shifted in the Green and Gold's favor and a 17-8 Lions run brought Saint Leo within one with 3:51 left to play. Foxx and Girten combined for 11 points in the run, and the Lions held Florida Tech scoreless for just under three minutes. 

Out of the final media timeout, the pair dualed in the paint but Saint Leo couldn't overcome the high percentage shooting of the Panthers. In the second half, Florida Tech shot 62 percent and went 6–for–8 from behind the arc in the final 20 minutes. 

Saint Leo returns to conference action at home against Rollins Saturday, February 7. Tip-off is slated for 4:00 pm at the Marion Bowman Athletic Center.
