Lions fall 70-60 on the road against the Sharks

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A balanced offensive effort was not enough to propel the Saint Leo University men's basketball team ahead of Nova Southeastern University, falling 70-60, Wednesday evening in the NSU Arena.

The Lions drop to 11-9 with a 3-5 record in Sunshine State Conference matchups while the hosting Sharks improve to 7-10, 3-5 in SSC play.

Senior Cale Girten scored 14 points for the Lions while Ron Foxx netted 13.  The pair of forwards grabbed six and seven rebounds, respectively.

Junior Edmunds Dukulis notched nine points as the Lions turned to a rounded-attack, but the team was unable to come away with the win.

The Green and Gold faced the dual threat of Justin Jeangerard and Chris Page, as the tandem scored 12 and nine points, respectively. The Lions spread the offense as Girten led with six points while Foxx and Dukulis followed with five points apiece.

Saint Leo outrebounded the Sharks 11 to six in the opening stanza but the edge was given to NSU, as the home squad shot 58% from the field.

The Sharks pulled away in the second half as the offensive efforts of Jeangerard and Page carried beyond the intermission.  The Lions gave chase, closing the gap in the late minutes, but Nova Southeastern would hang on to win 70-60.

Saint Leo outrebounded NSU 32 to 19 despite the outcome as the Lions conclude the opening round of SSC play.

Saint Leo will return home to face Barry University, Saturday Jan. 31st to begin the second set of SSC matchups.  The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start at the Marion Bowman Activities Center.  Live stats as well as a live video webcast will be available at
