Randall adds two new assistants to hoops staff

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University head men's basketball coach Lance Randall has added veteran assistant Dustin Johnston and coaching newcomer Ryan Hamm to his staff for the 2014-15 season, and the pair will join Randall on the sideline in the Lions' pursuit of the Sunshine State Conference title.

Johnston comes to Saint Leo from Trinity International University in Deerfield, Ill., where he had been a graduate assistant and then assistant coach since 2012. In addition to assisting with practice planning, travel, recruiting and video for the Trojans, Johnston served as the programs head junior varsity program coach during the 2013-14 campaign.

He also served as an analyst with Krossover Intelligence, a basketball video analysis company, during the 2013-14 season, and interned with the Harlem Ambassadors charity basketball team.

Johnston began his career at the prep level, coaching at St. Croix Preparatory Academy in Stillwater, Minn., (2011-12) and Riverdale High School in Muscoda, Wis. (2010-11).

"Dustin has a great basketball mind and impeccable value system that will help develop our young men as players and people," said Randall. "He has great recruiting connections in the Midwest where, where he has been an assistant high school coach in Minnesota, a graduate assistant in Chicago and a varsity assistant at the college level. Dustin, his wife Jenny and their son Klayton are tremendous additions to the Saint Leo family."

A 2010 graduate of Trinity International with a degree in sports and wellness management, Johnston also holds a master's degree in leadership from TIU.

Hamm mostly recently served as a student-assistant coach for two seasons at Thomas More College, where he was a three-year starter for the Saints and helped lead the squad to a school record 21 wins. He also worked as a head coach for a pair of AAU programs, Bombers Basketball Club (Independence, Ky.) and Shining Stars AAU (Florence, Ky.).

As a prep player, Hamm played for a Mason County High School squad that captured a Kentucky State Championship during his junior season in 2008.

Hamm brings considerable camp experience across the Midwest and Florida to the Saint Leo staff, after working camps at Butler, Michigan State, Marquette, Florida, and Florida State.

"Ryan is extremely intelligent, has high character and has a great attention to detail. He had a tremendous playing career at one of the best high basketball programs in the country and then was a three-year starter in college at Thomas More in Kentucky," said Randall. "He has been teaching and coaching high school and AAU basketball in northern Kentucky and will help us in our recruiting presence throughout Kentucky and parts of Ohio and Indiana."

A May 2013 graduate of Thomas More, Hamm holds a Bachelor of Education degree.
