BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's basketball team notched its 16th win on Saturday afternoon as the Lions trumped the host Lynn Fighting Knights 78-64 in Sunshine State Conference action from south Florida.
The Lions (16-4, 4-3 SSC) saw contributions from a number of players as four members of the Green and Gold reached double figures. Jerrel Harris again took the game's scoring title with 23 points behind a 16-for-17 effort from the free throw line.
After a slow start by Saint Leo, where Lynn (7-10, 1-6 SSC) jumped out to a 6-2 advantage, it was contributions from Ron Foxx, Devin Crisosto and Ryan Wilson that helped put the Lions back in control. All three came off the bench to score 11 points apiece in the victory. Crisosto went 4-for-8 from the field while Wilson was perfect, going 3-3, all from behind the 3-point arc, to go along with a 2-for-2 effort from the free throw line. Foxx had another solid all-around effort, including a 7-for-10 night at the free throw line.
As a team, Saint Leo combined to shoot 47 percent from the field while they connected on 67 percent of their triple attempts. In a game where the hosts committed 31 fouls, the Lions answered from the charity stripe, making 84 percent (36-of-43) free throw attempts.
Lynn saw an 18-point effort from Aaron Harrison as the Lions' defense again stepped up, holding the host Fighting Knights to just 39 percent shooting from the field and a woeful 5-for-25 (20 percent) from long range.
The Lions now turn their attention toward a mid-week trip back to south Florida when Saint Leo faces Nova Southeastern on Wednesday night. Saint Leo and NSU will tip off at 7:30 p.m. as second place in the Sunshine State Conference is on the line at the halfway point of the SSC schedule.
