Upset Bid Falls Short in 92-86 Loss to No. 3 Florida Southern

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's basketball team's upset bid to hand third-ranked Florida Southern its first loss of the season came up seven points short as the Lions fell to the Mocs 92-86 at a sold out Marion Bowman Activities Center on Wednesday night.

It was a game where the Lions (13-4, 2-3 SSC) jumped out to a 14 point lead early on, catching the visiting Mocs on their heels. The Lions held off the nation's third ranked team for the entire first half, holding the lead from wire-to-wire, but Florida Southern regrouped out of the gates in the second half and was able to draw even with Saint Leo.

The Moccasins (16-0, 4-0 SSC) took the lead for good with 10:40 left in the game, but Saint Leo kept things interesting as the Lions never allowed the visitor's advantage to grow by more than seven points.  As time wound down the Lions pushed for one more rally, dropping the FSC advantage down to just a single possession, but the Moccasins used long, time-consuming possessions and high-percentage shots to keep Saint Leo from pulling off the upset.

Jerrel Harris buoyed his Conference Player of the Week honor with a game-high 25 point effort while Chim Kadima came off the bench to score 18 in the loss.  Devin Crisosto added 14 points on a 4-of-6 effort.

Kevin Capers scored 23 points in piloting the conference-leading Mocs to the hard-fought road victory. He was one of five Moccasins that reached double-figures on the evening with Dominic Lane adding 17 in the victory.

The Lions will look to regroup when they welcome Palm Beach Atlantic into the Bowman Center on Saturday afternoon.  Saint Leo and the Sailfish will tip-off at 4 p.m.
