SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's basketball team gave fans an early Christmas present as the Lions won their 11th game of 2013-14 behind a 79-68 victory over visitng Shaw (NC) on Sunday afternoon.
Despite a first half that saw the Lions (11-2) head into the lockers holding a slim 29-25 lead, an early second half surge allowed Saint Leo to open up a comfortable advantage. After the visitors from Raleigh, NC drew to within a bucket to open the half, the Lions outscored the Bears 14-4 over the next five minute span which allowed Saint Leo to open up a 12 point advantage with 14 minutes to play.
Behind outstanding play from Jerrel Harris, Devin Crisosto, Chim Kadima and Spenser Mitchell the Lions extended the lead to as much as 18 points in the second half, and were able to send fans into the Christmas holiday with excitement for the New Year of Sunshine State Conference play.
Shooting 25-of-49 (51 percent) from the field, the Lions were led by an eye-popping six double-digit scoring efforts capped by Ryan Willson's 13 off of the bench. Crisosto and Harris added 12 while Kadima and Ron Foxx dropped in 11. Mitchell rounded out the Lions' double-figures scorers with a 10 point afternoon.
Curtis Hines came off the bench to score 26 points for Shaw (2-8).
The Lions will now head into the Christmas Break where they will have 13 days between games. Saint Leo will next hit the hardwood in the New Year when they welcome Florida Tech into the Bowman Center on January 4, 2014. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
