Lions Drop Conference Road Matchup with Lynn

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Playing without their leading scorer, the Saint Leo men's basketball team could not answer a hot-shooting Lynn University squad as the Lions fell 61-50 in Sunshine State Conference action at the deHornle Center on Wednesday evening.  The loss dropped the Lions to 9-10 overall and 3-6 in the SSC while Lynn improves to 12-10 and 5-5 in conference.

The first half went back-and-forth with Lynn taking a one point lead at the 14:42 mark over Saint Leo. Lynn then rattled off five-straight points to go up by six with 13:26 left in the half.

With 4:38 left in the first Lynn managed to take the lead up to 11 points. Saint Leo cut the Lynn advantage down to seven on a Tom Neary layup with under a minute and a half left in the period before the Knights ended the period on a 6-0 run to go into the locker room up 34-21.

Saint Leo shot just 26.7 percent in the first half and the Lions held a 1-for-7 mark from behind the arc. The hosts countered with a 54 percent shooting clip which included a 5-for-9 mark from downtown.

Out of the lockers, Lynn stretched its advantage to the largest of the game up 38-22 with 17:34 remaining, forcing the Green and Gold to try to play catch-up for the remainder.

The Lions trimmed the lead down to nine on several occasions, but every time the Fighting Knights responded and pushed their advantage back to double-digits and would eventually run out the clock.

Three Lions scored double-figures with Neary and Marcus Ruh splitting the team title with 12 points each. Dominick Robinson added 10 points in the loss.

Jeremy Lampkin led Lynn with 11 points and also grabbed seven rebounds. Brandon Smith followed Lampkin with 10 points as the only other Fighting Knight in double-digits.

The Lions will try to rebound when they return home to face Florida Tech on Saturday.  Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Bowman Center on the Saint Leo campus.  For the latest news, information, and updates on Lions Basketball and all other Saint Leo Athletics, visit
