WINTER PARK, Fla. – The host Rollins Tars shot 55 percent (30-55) from the field and missed just two free throws (14-16) in their 86-49 defeat of Saint Leo in Sunshine State Conference men’s basketball action on Saturday afternoon.
Saint Leo (10-13, 1-12 SSC) struggled the entire night, shooting just 30 percent (18-60) from the floor and 6-of-20 from 3-point range. The Tars also won the battle on the glass, outrebounding the Lions 36-31.
Saint Leo led 8-2 after the first four minutes until a Matt Robertson trey sparked a 20-1 Rollins (20-4, 12-1 SSC) run over the next six minutes to put the Tars up 22-9. The Lions closed the gap to 26-16 with five minutes left in the period, but the Tars ended the first half on another 14-0 run to lead 40-16 at intermission.
The Lions would get no closer than 21 the rest of the way and Rollins led by as much as 40 late, taking an 81-40 lead with under five minutes to play.
No Lions reached double figures as Quentin Cullop led the team with seven points.
Saint Leo will return home after 10 days on the road to face the University of Tampa on Wednesday night. The Lions and Spartans will tip off at 7:30 p.m. in the Marion Bowman Activities Center.
