Cullop's 26 Points Not Enough in Loss
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's basketball team could not contain the hot shooting hand of the Eckerd College Tritons as EC posted an 87-73 win in Sunshine State Conference action at Eckerd's McArthur Center on Wednesday night.
Honoring their graduating seniors beforehand, Eckerd (20-6, 11-5 SSC) only allowed Saint Leo to manage a three point lead midway through the first half. Aside from that, the Tritons maintained a decent margin of at least four points through the remainder of the first half and opened it up to double digits in the second.
Shooting over 54 percent (33-of-61) for the game, Eckerd used their accuracy to shut down Saint Leo (11-16, 1-14 SSC), keeping them to just 38 percent (27-of-71) for the ballgame.
Senior Quentin Cullop lead the Lions with a game-high 26 points and Saladeem Dewberry also cracked the double-digit plateau with 10 points on the evening. Dewberry was two rebounds shy of his third double-double of the season, finishing with eight boards.
Eliminated from postseason play, the Lions will wrap the 2011 season when they return home to face Barry University on Saturday night. The Lions will say farewell to seven seniors in a game that will also be Head Coach Mike Madagan's final game as leader of the Green & Gold. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. with Senior Day events beginning at 3:55 p.m.
