Boca Raton, Fla. (January 12, 2008) – Junior Kyle Rowland (North Port, Fla.) scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Saint Leo men’s basketball team (7-6, 1-2 SSC) to a 65-61 road win over Lynn University (8-6, 2-2 SSC) on Saturday night in Boca Raton, Fla. The win was the Lions’ third straight over the Knights after losing each of the first 22 meetings in the all-time series.
Rowland’s teammates Jordan Prais (So., Lakeland, Fla.) and Quentin Cullop (So., Winter Haven, Fla.) added double-figure performances to lift the Lions to their first conference win of the season and above .500 overall. Prais scored 14 points in the win, while Cullop added 10.
The game was close throughout with neither team leading by more than nine points. There were a total of 19 lead changes and 13 ties. The largest lead of the first half was a three-point margin and the Knights led by one at the break.
Rowland had a pair of three-point plays in the second half to lead the turnaround, as the Lions fell behind by nine early in the second frame when the Knights scored the first eight points. An 11-2 run by Saint Leo tied the score and the Lions took the lead for good when Cullop hit a pair of free throws with 8:51 remaining in the contest.
Saint Leo will host Florida Southern on Wednesday night in its next action. The game is scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m. at the Bowman Center.
