Saint Leo, Fla. (December 17, 2007) – The Saint Leo University men’s basketball team (4-3) was edged 82-80 in double overtime by the visiting University of West Florida Argonauts (5-3) on Monday night at the Bowman Center.  The Argonauts got a pair of free throws from Lucas Malone with 1:02 remaining in the second overtime to seal the win after escaping defeat late in regulation and at the end of the first OT.

Saint Leo was led by Kyle Rowland (Jr., North Port, Fla.) who scored a game-high tying 24 points and added eight rebounds.  Both Jordan Prais and George Eshesimua registered double-doubles with 15 points apiece and 12 and 10 boards, respectively.  Dusty Driggs (Jr., Sharpsville, Ind.) rounded out a quartet in double figures with 14 points on the night.

UWF was led by guard Ryan Henry who match Rowland with 24 points, including four three-pointers.  Josh Jackson added 20 points, and drained five treys, as the Argonauts were 14-of-38 from beyond the three-point arc.

After securing an early lead, the Lions trailed by nine at half-time.  The Argos held the advantage for much of the second half before Saint Leo put together a 17-1 run to take a six-point lead with 1:24 remaining in regulation.  West Florida closed the regulation period with a 9-3 run, including a game-tying three-pointer by Henry with just seven-seconds left on the clock.

Both teams held leads in the first overtime, but Saint Leo guard Quentin Cullop (So., Winter Haven, Fla.) missed a pair of free throws with four seconds remaining in the first overtime period, pushing the game to a second OT.

In the second overtime, West Florida led by four but a three-pointer by Rowland tied the game for the tenth and final time with 1:20 left.  Malone then hit both free throws with 1:02 left to provide the final margin.

Saint Leo will hit the road this weekend to participate in the University of the District of Columbia Christmas Classic in Washington, D.C.  The Lions will face Columbia Union on Friday and then take on tournament host UDC on Saturday.  Both games will tip off at 2:00 p.m. and can be heard live on the Internet via the Saint Leo Athletics Audiocast Network.
