Saint Leo, Fla. (November 26, 2007) – Sophomore forward Jordan Prais (Lakeland, Fla.) scored a game and season-high 21 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds to lead the Saint Leo men’s basketball team (3-0) to a 79-58 win over visiting Southeastern University (5-2) on Monday night.
Prais’ teammate and fellow sophomore Quentin Cullop (Winter Haven, Fla.) added a season-high 16 points along with five assists in the win.
The Lions scored the first five points of the game to take an early lead. However, Southeastern battled back to tie the score at 7-7 with 15:54 left in the first half. The Lions used a 10-2 run to open an eight-point lead late in the half, and eventually led by as many as 10 points. However, it was an eight-point margin at the half.
Saint Leo pulled away early in the second half, using a 14-6 run to open an 18-point lead in the first 5:42. The Lions continued to build on their lead, and stretched it to a game-high 23 points on a layup by Prais with 9:39 left in the contest.
SLU outshot SU 52.7% (29-of-55) to 32.8% (21-of-64) and also held a big advantage with a 44-24 margin in points in the paint. The Lions turned 24 Fire turnovers into 36 points, but the visitors outrebounded Saint Leo 43-40.
The Lions will return to action on Saturday, December 1 when they take to the road for the first time in the 2007-08 season. Saint Leo will head to St. Augustine, Fla. to face Flagler College with opening tip scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
