Saint Leo, Fla. (November 19, 2007) – Sophomore Jordan Prais (Lakeland, Fla.) scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Saint Leo men’s basketball team (2-0) to an 86-53 victory over visiting Puerto Rico-Cayey on Monday night in a non-conference game.
Kyle Rowland (Jr., North Port, Fla.) added 14 points in the win, while Eric Sharper (Jr., Orlando, Fla.) scored eight points and grabbed a career and game-high 13 rebounds.
After the lead exchanged hands eight times in the opening 8:54 of the contest, Saint Leo took control on the strength of a 17-5 run that gave the Lions a 34-23 lead with 5:32 left in the opening half. SLU then closed the half on 12-2 run to head into the locker room with a 21-point lead.
The lead ballooned to 35 early in the second half and grew to as many as 37 points in the closing stages, as Saint Leo posted its second consecutive 33-point victory.
The Lions’ bench outscored the Cayey bench 31-18 and Saint Leo held a 34-28 edge in points in the paint. Saint Leo also outrebounded UPR 49-31 on the night.
Saint Leo will have a week off before its next game at home versus Southeastern University on Monday, November 26 at 7:30 p.m.
