St. Augustine, Fla. (November 22, 2006) − Freshman Quentin Cullop’s (Winter Haven, Fla.) jumper with 1:26 left in regulation gave the Saint Leo men’s basketball team (1-2) a 78-76 lead and the Lions would hold on for an 82-79 win over Flagler College Wednesday night at Flagler Gym.
Flagler (0-3) knotted the game at 76-76 after Sam Jozenville made one-of-two shots from the free throw line. Cullop made a move off the right elbow and sank a 12-footer to give Saint Leo the lead for good.
On the ensuing possession, Flagler turned the ball over and was forced to foul to get the ball back. The Saints sent Jordan Prais (Fr., Lakeland, Fla.) to the line, and the freshman made both shots to give the Lions an 80-76 lead with 34-seconds left in the game.
Lee Wise hit a 3-pointer from 22-feet out to get Flagler to within one, 80-79, with 24-ticks left. Flagler then fouled Richard Blue (Sr., Miami, Fla.) who stepped to the line and drained both with 20-seconds remaining to give Saint Leo an 82-79 lead.
Wise missed a 3-pointer with four seconds left and Daniel Marsh gathered the rebound and tried to set up for a desperation 3-pointer from the right sideline but could not get the shot off in time.
Prais led Saint Leo with a game-high tying 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and he also grabbed six rebounds. Alleo Frazier (Gr., Tampa, Fla.) added 14 points, while Blue came off the bench to score 14 points.
Ben De La Cruz led Flagler with 18 points and six rebounds before fouling out with 34 seconds left. Wise added 15 points while Jozenville and J.P. Clark each contributed 13 points.
Saint Leo returns to action on Nov. 27 when they host Southeastern University at 7:30 p.m. in the Lions’ 2006-07 home opener.
