Denver Colo. (November 17, 2006) - The Saint Leo men's basketball team (0-1)opened the 2006-07 season with a 93-65 loss to Colorado Christian University in the first day of action at the Metro State Tip Off Classic in Denver, Colo.
Saint Leo was led by Alleo Frazier’s (Grad., Tampa., Fla.) 10 points. Brian Stamer scored 26 points to lead Colorado Christian to victory. Peter Bailey also scored 18 points, while Jordan Long had 11 for the Cougars.
Colorado Christian shot 53.4 percent (31-for-58) from the floor for the game and converted 80 percent (16-for-20) from the charity stripe as it rolled to the win.
The Cougars led 32-19 with six minutes left in the opening period and opened it up to 42-24 with less than a minute remaining. Stamer had 20 first-half points, while the Cougars dominated on the boards, 24-11. In the second half, the Lions closed to within 11 points 47-36, but Colorado Christian increased its lead and pushed out to a 21-point advantage before cruising to the victory.
Colorado Christian posted 23 assists on 31 buckets, while making 57.7 percent (15-for-26) of its shots from long range. Bailey had four treys, while Jake Kettles tallied nine assists.
Saint Leo will face Metro State on Saturday night at 9:00 p.m. ET in the final game of the 2006 Metro Stat Tip Off Classic.
