Baseball falls to in-state rival Flagler, 10-3

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo baseball allowed four home runs by visiting Flagler College, allowing the visiting Saints to post a 10-3 win over the Lions on Friday night at Thomas B. Southard Stadium.

Saint Leo dropped to 21-24 with the loss, while Flagler improved to 27-22.

Flagler took a 4-0 lead through three innings after putting up single runs in the first and second innings, followed by two runs in the third. The Saints' runs in the second and the third came from home runs by Ja'Kobi Dasher and Igor Baez.

Saint Leo got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning thanks to a lead-off single by Dylan Harris, a follow-up single by Alex Mata, and eventually crossing on a Shane Williams grounder to short.

The Saints extended their lead to 5-1 on Dylan Jones' home run in the fifth, but the Lions got the run back in the sixth when Williams reached on a one-out single and scored later in the frame on a wild pitch.

After extending its lead to 6-2 in the seventh, Flagler's Jake Hathaway hit a grand slam to give the Saints an eight-run lead.

Pinch hitter Nick Boland hit his fifth home run of the season, the 10th of his career, with a solo shot to center field in the ninth to cap the scoring.

Harris, Mata, and Brett Coffel each had a pair of hits for the Lions, with Coffel recording a double. Saint Leo starter Tyler Bauman allowed nine hits and five runs against five strikeouts over six innings of work and was charged with the loss.

Hathaway paced Flagler with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate five RBI, while Dylan Jones also had three hits.

Saint Leo and Flagler conclude the two-game series on Saturday, May 6, at 1:00 p.m. at Thomas B. Southard Stadium.
