Newcomers Highlight Daktronics All-South Region Selections

Tampa, Fla. – The Daktronics All-South Region team was announced Thursday, with the Lions' Fran Whitten, Dylan Harris, and Nick Perez taking home postseason accolades. A total of 32 student-athletes earned Daktronics South Region recognition with the Sunshine State Conference commanding 23 selections and the Gulf South Conference picking up nine accolades.

After taking home an All-Sunshine State Conference first team selection earlier this week, Whitten was tabbed to the Daktronics All-South Region First Team. The senior, who joined the green and gold for his final year of play, finished off the season leading the conference with 11 homeruns and 110 total bases. In addition, he led his team in numerous categories, including doubles, homeruns, RBI, slugging, and on-base percentage. A first baseman hailing from Westborough, Mass., he led the Lions in putouts, with 324.

Freshman Dylan Harris earned Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year honors, as well as a selection to the All-SSC First Team as a third baseman. After leading all Sunshine State Conference freshmen in hitting on the year with a .366 average, he garnered a Daktronics South Region Second Team selection. The Land O' Lakes, Fla. native also led the SSC in hits and at-bats, tying for third overall in runs scored. He ended his freshman campaign with a team-leading 45 runs scored, 71 hits, and 13 stolen bases.

Junior Nick Perez, who earlier in the year was named an NCBWA National Hitter of the Week, took home a Daktronics All-Region Second Team selection as a utility man. The Tampa, Fla. native led Sunshine State Conference everyday starters with a .407 batting average, blasting 66 hits to finish second in the SSC, just behind teammate Dylan Harris. Seeing time in both the infield and outfield, the junior earned a perfect fielding average during the 2014 season.

The D2SIDA All-America and All-Region baseball teams are sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition.
