Lions Improve to 5-0 Behind Complete Game Effort from O'Sullivan

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – After making the 522 mile trek to northern Alabama, the Saint Leo baseball team defeated the Montevallo Falcons by a 11-6 score, Friday afternoon. Junior righty Liam O'Sullivan took the mound in the contest, tossing his first career complete game donning the green and gold.

The top of the first was again jumpstarted by the NCBWA National Player of the Week, Nick Perez, who singled to right field. After a single from freshman Dylan Harris and a Montevallo passed ball, Nick Perez scored on a sacrifice fly from junior Bobby Twitty. With Harris still on first, senior cleanup hitter Fran Whitten singled to right field to give the Lions two base runners. Moments later, sophomore Cole Stancil collected an RBI single to right field and Harris scored. A walk and a flyout later, Whitten scored on a wild pitch, leaving the Lions with two runners. After Dale Irving advanced to first on a hit by pitch and Taylor Perez tallied a walk, scoring Whitten, Saint Leo had the bases loaded. Seconds later, Nick Perez blasted a triple to clear the bases and score give the Lions a seven run lead.

With the score 7-0 heading into the bottom of the first, junior Liam O'Sullivan took the mound, getting stronger with every inning. Though Montevallo was able to tack on three runs in the bottom of the inning, Saint Leo still maintained the lead.

After a scoreless second inning, the Falcons added another run to the scoreboard in the bottom of the third, but the Lions retaliated in the top of the fourth to score three more runs and take a 10-4 lead. Freshman Dylan Harris led off the inning with a homerun, but an error and two back-to-back doubles from Chris Newcomb and Jordan Taylor gave the Lions the momentum they needed.
