PENSACOLA, Fla. –Just days after being named Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, Lions' third baseman Dillon Vitale has been selected as the South Region Player of the Week, it was announced by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) this afternoon.
The senior from Punta Gorda, Fla. batted .692 (9-for-13) with nine RBI and 10 runs to lead the Lions to a 4-0 weekly mark, including an SSC sweep at Eckerd. Vitale tallied two home runs and three doubles en route to a 1.385 slugging percentage.
He registered an impressive .818 on-base percentage. In a 13-10 non-conference win at Warner, Vitale went 5-for-6 with a homer, a double, and five RBI. In an 11-3 win in the series opener at Eckerd, he was 2-for-3 with two doubles and a pair of runs batted in. His other homer came in a 19-0 win in game two.
Vitale leads the Lions in batting with a .383 average, and also leads the team with 27 walks.
Saint Leo is 28-12 overall and 8-7 in the Sunshine State Conference. The Lions are currently ranked No. 6 in the NCBWA south region rankings, and are in the hunt for an NCAA Regional bid.
