WINTER PARK, Fla. – For the second consecutive week a Saint Leo pitcher has been tabbed as the Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week--with senior Matthew Hewitt taking this week's honors.
Hewitt (Holiday, Fla.) came on in relief to help the Lions pick up a regional road win at Albany State last Monday. Hewitt worked the final 6.0 innings of action, scattering just three hits with no walks. He struck out seven Ram batters en route to his second win of the season. Hewitt's six-inning effort marked the most consecutive innings he's pitched in his Saint Leo career.
Hewitt has hurled 16 innings thus far in his senior campaign with an ERA of 2.81. Over his six appearances Hewitt has struck out 12 while allowing just four walks.
