Lions Break into NCAA Top 30 After Hot Start
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Hours after being voted as the sixth best team in the South Region by the NCBWA, Saint Leo baseball is receiving national recognition—checking in at No. 28 in the Division II Baseball Poll on NCAA.com.
At 10-2 and off to one of the best starts in program history, first-year head coach Sean O'Connor and the Lions have now won nine in a row after beating Albany State on Monday night.
"It nice to be ranked in top 30 poll, but we have a lot of work to do," O'Connor said. "12 games in and we have had a good start, but we know our conference schedule is demanding. To win Sunshine State Conference games we will have to continue to play better each week."
Most recently, the Lions swept a four-game road trip—taking three games from the University of West Alabama and one from Albany State. The Lions have ridden their starting pitching and relied on timely hitting to win close ball games.
Up next is a regional showdown against Florida Tech on Tuesday, Feb. 26 in Melbourne, Fla.
