Teasley and Newcomb Receive Preseason All-South Region Honors

PENSACOLA, Fla.—Two Saint Leo baseball players were named to the2013 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason All-South Region teams, it was announced today from Pensacola, Fla.

Senior LHP Rick Teasley was named to the All-South Region First Team and junior centerfielder Chris Newcomb was selected to the All-South Region Second Team.

Teasley led the Lions' pitching staff in 2012 with a 2.91 ERA while hurling 74.1 innings on the year. Twice during the year he was named the NCBWA Regional Pitcher of the Week and was honored at the end of the 2012 season as a Sunshine State Conference Honorable Mention selection.

Newcomb batted .304 in 2012 over the course of a team-high 168 at bats. He belted a team leading eight home runs and six triples, while still leading the team in stolen bases with 17.

Newcomb and Teasley were among 14 Sunshine State Conference players to be named to the NBCWA first and second teams.

The Lions 2013 campaign gets underway on Friday, Feb. 1 vs. Montevallo. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
