SAINT LEO, Fla. – Aaron Brandt tossed eight innings and Ryan Brnovich went 3-for-4 as the Lions took care of visiting Florida Christian College in a 12-2 victory at a soggy Thomas B. Southard Stadium on Friday night.
Responding from a two-spot that Florida Christian (3-10) put up in the first on an Erick Figueroa two-run homer, the Lions scored runs in the first four straight innings to jump out to an 8-2 advantage. Chasing starting Suns' pitcher Bryan Ortiz (0-4) after just three innings, the Lions worked him for eight hits and three walks.
It was the night where the Lions (6-3) posted a plethora of extra-base knocks with six of their 14 hits gathering multiple bases, including two triples.
Brnovich did his work from the leadoff position getting three hits, including a triple, and scoring three runs. Chris Newcomb with 2-for-4 with two RBI as six of the Lions' nine starters managed hits against Suns pitchers.
Brandt (2-1) settled down after a rocky first two batters to surrender just nine hits in 102 pitches. Austin Buck wrapped things up for Saint Leo in the ninth to give the Lions the win.
The Lions will be back in action on Saturday evening when they face Clearwater Christian College. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Thomas B. Southard Stadium. For the latest news, information, and updates on Lions' Baseball, visit SaintLeoLions.com.
