ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Senior Jeff Bloomer earn his first start of the 2011 season on Friday night and didn’t disappoint as he tossed a complete game, picking up the 4-0 win for the Saint Leo baseball team in their Sunshine State Conference series-opening game on Friday night.

Bloomer (1-0) gave up seven hits – all singles – and struck out two. The Lions (15-28, 4-15 SSC) gave the senior all the offense he needed in the first with two runs.  Saint Leo added a run in the seventh and eighth innings.
 
Ryan Brnovich and Ryan Powers each had two hits for Saint Leo, with Brnovich scoring two runs. Dustin Brown went 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
 
Joey Cuda (4-5) took the loss for Eckerd (16-27, 4-15), though the right-hander allowed just one earned run in eight innings. The junior surrendered seven hits and struck out five.

After a break on Saturday for Commencement at Saint Leo University, the Lions and Tritons will get the series back underway on Sunday.  First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on Eckerd’s Senior Day.
