SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo baseball team got back into the win column in impressive fashion on Friday night as the Lions posted an 8-2 victory over visiting Clearwater Christian College in non-conference action from Thomas B. Southard Stadium.

The Lions pounded out 12 hits on the night, including an in-the-park homerun to get their first win in four games.

After two scoreless innings to start the game, Saint Leo (11-22) plated two runs in the third behind a Dustin Brown triple that scored Anthony Santa and Jason Hamm, both reaching base through free passes.

Three more runs would cross in the fifth as Santa led the inning off with a triple and the Lions would eventually walk the bases loaded and work out four hits as well.

Saint Leo starter Aaron Brandt (4-4) would not surrender a run until his final inning as he tossed 5.2 innings, allowing five hits and just one earned run.  He struck out five Cougars in drawing his season record back to .500.

The final highlight of the night came when Kory Wan shot a ball into right-center field.  Misplayed by the Clearwater center fielder, and in the deepest part of the park, Wan hustled to third as the ball made its way to the cutoff.  Catching the cutoff man off-balance, Wan stuttered, then sprinted home to beat the throw registering an inside-the-park homerun on the two RBI hit.

Wan would eventually end up 1-for-2 with three RBI, but the star of the night was Jason Hamm, who was a perfect 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

The Lions and Cougars will conclude this short, two-game series tomorrow as they square off at 3:00 p.m.
