SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo baseball team could not capitalize on the thrilling win on Friday night as the Lions dropped both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday by the final scores for 7-3 and 7-2 in Sunshine State Conference action at Thomas B. Southard Stadium.
Both games told very similar storylines with Lynn (12-9, 2-1 SSC) scoring multiple runs in each inning they spun the scoreboard. Game one saw the Lions (9-12, 1-2 SSC) trying to fight back from a five-spot that the visitors tacked on the board in the third inning. Just as it looked as if the Lions were rallying to close the advantage, Lynn added two more runs in the seventh to widen the gap and kill the hopes of a comeback.
Game two saw the Fighting Knights post two runs in the second inning and when the Lions cut the lead in half with a run in the fourth Lynn again opened up the margin with a two-run sixth inning. The visitors from Boca Raton put the final exclamation point on their sweep when the scored three times in the seventh inning.
Both Saint Leo starting pitchers, Shaun Gough (1-3) and Rick Teasley (2-1) picked up the losses while Anthony Santa went 3-for-7 with an RBI at the plate.
Anthony Boza went a combined 3-for-8 with two RBI and three runs scored.
The Lions will look to regroup from this lost opportunity when they travel to Lake Wales on Tuesday and face Warner University. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
