SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo baseball team dug themselves and early hole and could not get the lucky breaks in the end as they fell 6-4 to visiting Barry University in non-conference action on Saturday evening from Southard Stadium.

It was a first inning that made all the difference in the game as starting Saint Leo pitcher Matt Smith had the roughest of his seven innings as he could not settle down, surrendering three runs in the frame.  With two runners on and just one out on the board, Buccaneer left-fielder Manny Pedrozo stroked a 1-0 fastball over the left-centerfield fence to give the visitors the early advantage.

After that stanza, Smith would settle into his groove, allowing the Lions to slowly try and cut into the lead.
