Saint Leo, Fla. (May 12, 2008) – Saint Leo University baseball player Reid Tilson (Jr., Brandon, Fla.) was named SSC Pitcher of the Week, it was announced Monday by SSC Commissioner Michael J. Marcil.

Tilson took the mound in the final three innings of 12-inning series-opening marathon at Nova Southeastern, holding the Sharks at bay to give SLU (30-22, 9-13 SSC) a 13-9 win and set the table for a Lion series victory. Tilson held NSU scoreless, allowing just one hit and retiring the Sharks in order twice. He faced just one batter over the minimum in his three innings of work.

Saint Leo’s win in the series opener ended NSU’s bid for a first-ever Sunshine State Conference Championship.  The Lions went on the win the series and knock the Sharks from NCAA Regional contention.

Saint Leo student-athletes claimed a total of 30 SSC Player of the Week honors in the 2007-08 season, and 33 Athletes of the Week overall.  Tilson earned SSC Pitcher of the Week honors for the first time in his Saint Leo career, marking the second Pitcher of the Week honor for the Saint Leo baseball team this season.
