St. Augustine, Fla. (April 27, 2008) – Senior starter Carter Clements (Eustis, Fla.) threw a complete-game and allowed three runs on nine hits, helping the Saint Leo University baseball team (28-21) defeat Flagler College (24-22) by a score of 6-3 on Sunday afternoon in St. Augustine, Fla.

Saint Leo was led by centerfielder Kyle Hobbs (Jr., Dade City, Fla.) who went 3-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored.  LF T.J. Alonzo (Jr., Tampa, Fla.) was also 2-for-5 on the afternoon with a pair of RBI, while senior 3B Devon Cason (Tampa, Fla.) drove in the game-winning run in the eighth inning.

The Lions took the lead in the first, as Alonzo drove in the opening run of the game with a groundout.  Saint Leo doubled its lead in the second inning when Hobbs delivered an RBI single to score Cason from second base.

Flagler battled back to take its first lead of the game with three runs in the fourth, but Saint Leo quickly tied the game in the top of the fifth when Alonzo doubled down the left field line to score Bobby Munoz (Jr., Tampa, Fla.) who had led off the inning with a walk.

The Lions took the lead for good in the eighth, as Yunior Tabares (Sr., Tampa, Fla.) led off the inning with a single.  Cason drove in Tabares with a single and Hobbs plated two insurance runs with a two-run single through the left side.

Clements made the lead stand up, as he allowed just two hits in the final five innings to go the distance and improve to 6-3 on the season.

Saint Leo will close out its regular season on Monday, May 5 and Tuesday May 6 with a three-game Sunshine State Conference series at Nova Southeastern University.  The first game will be Monday night at 6:00 p.m. with a Tuesday doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
