Saint Leo, Fla. (March 25, 2008) – The Saint Leo University baseball team (22-10) was shut out 5-0 by visiting Florida Southern College (14-18) in non-conference action Tuesday night at Southard Stadium.

The Lions could muster only three hits, as four Mocs pitchers combined for the shutout.  FSC starter Ken Wadsworth was the winner on the hill, as he allowed just one hit in three innings of work.  Relievers Randy Cseh, Jeremy Thorne and Daniel Tillman combined to allow just two hits the remainder of the game and record the combined shutout.

Saint Leo starter Rodney Miller (Sr., Binghamton, N.Y.) suffered his first loss of the season, dropping to 3-1 on the year.

Southern scored single runs in the first and second innings, providing all the offense its pitching staff would need to get the win.  An RBI single by Arden McWilliams in the first was followed by a solo home run from Will Cherry in the second inning.

The Mocs iced the win in the top of the ninth inning when catcher Zach Maggard drove in three runs with a bases clearing double to left center.

The Lions will return to Sunshine State Conference action this weekend with a three-game series at Lynn University Friday and Saturday.  Friday’s series opener is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. in Boca Raton, Fla.
