Bristol, Tenn. (June 27, 2008) – Former Saint Leo University baseball player Shane Buriff (Lutz, Fla.) signed a free agent contract with the Chicago White Sox on Monday, June 16 and reported to Bristol, Tenn. to join the Bristol White Sox of the Appalachian League (Rookie).
The lefty has already appeared in two games for the Bristol team, and has earned a pair of wins in relief. Buriff has a 1.93 ERA in 4.2 innings of work, and has allowed just one run on five hits in his time on the mound. In addition, he has struck out seven.
In his first outing, Buriff earned the win over the Burlington Royals as he went 2.2 innings and allowed one run on three hits while striking out four. On Thursday, Buriff made his second appearance against the Bluefield Orioles and threw 2.0 innings of shutout ball with three strikeouts.
Buriff played two seasons at Saint Leo, posting an overall record of 7-4 in 27 appearances for the Lions and also adding one save. He threw a total of 99.0 innings for SLU and totaled 75 strikeouts. He transferred to Saint Leo prior to his junior season after playing the first two years of his collegiate career at Polk Community College.
